Distribution and relative abundance of Anchovy in Korean Waters Young Min CHOI, Zang Geun KIM, Cha Soo Park and Young Seup KIM National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI) 408-1 Sirang-ri, Kijang-eup, Kijang County, Pusan, 619-900, Korea Abundance of anchovy in the South eastern Sea of Korea was estimated by the echo integration in March and Novemver 1995. Acoustic survey was carried out during daytime along the transect line, echo-sounder operating at 38kHz was used for detecting anchovy school. From midwater trawl hauls for species identification, composition of anchovy of all hauls in the surveys were composed of 87.4% to 91.3#% of the total catches. Total body length were ranged from 7.1cm to 15.4cm. The mean relative abundance in the survey areas were 9.2 ton/n.mile2 and 6.4 ton/n.mile2, respectively in March and November. Geostatistic method was applied to the variance estimation.
